Improved skin closure

Histoacryl® Flexible is a sterile and liquid topical skin adhesive, consisting of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate and a softener. For easy visual assessment of the layer that has been applied, it is coloured blue.

Histoacryl® Flexible may be used with an optional applicator tip intended to provide easy distribution of the adhesive over the wound.

Histoacryl® Flexible provides safe and effective skin closure with:

  • a wound dehiscence rate lower than or equal to 4.5% [1]
  • a wound infection rate lower than or equal to 3.9% [1]
  • a wound complication rate lower than or equal to 10.2% [1]

Advantages

  • Flexibility
Allows closure of incisions up to 25 cm (proven by in-vitro data). [2-4]
  • Microbial barrier
Act as a physical barrier to microbial penetration as long as the adhesive film remains intact. [5,6]
  • Saves time
Decreased skin closure time compared to sutures. [7]
  • Less pain
Less pain than suture materials in skin closure. [8]
  • Reduces recovery time
Patient recovery time after wound closure is shorter than with subcuticular sutures. [8]
  • Fast and efficient Polymerization
Only 30 seconds of holding the wound edges together are needed. [1]
  • Ready to use
Storable at temperature below 25 ºC. [9]

Indication

Histoacryl® Flexible is indicated for the closure of minimum tension skin wounds from clean surgical incisions and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma induced lacerations.
